Today, hylane already operates the largest hydrogen truck fleet in the European Union. The trucks have consistently demonstrated their reliability in real-world heavy road freight operations with a variety of customers. Due to these positive experiences and increasing demand, hylane is expanding its fleet by 78 additional vehicles, bringing the total to 122 trucks.
Bernd Zens, Managing Director of hylane: "We are pleased with the positive development of the company. We particularly appreciate that we can further strengthen the trust of our existing customers and successfully expand our business with them. The continued demand confirms that we are on the right track and motivates us to work even more diligently on our project."
Close cooperation with IVECO
As part of its expansion, hylane has partnered with IVECO both as a fuel cell truck manufacturer and a workshop partner for selected vehicles. The initial purchase agreements cover 26 fuel cell-powered semi-trailers. Unlike hylane’s existing fleet, which operates at a refueling pressure of 350 bar, IVECO trucks use 700-bar refueling technology. This enables hylane’s customers to gain hands-on experience with both refueling systems.
Christian Sulser, Head of Sales and Marketing at Iveco Magirus AG, says: "We are pleased to have hylane as our first partner in Germany, who not only relies on our vehicle expertise in the field of fuel cell technology but also on our workshop expertise for fuel cell vehicles."
Technical data of the vehicles
The IVECO FCEV semi-trailers offer a range of up to 800 kilometers. Their hydrogen tanks store up to 70 kilograms at 700-bar pressure, supplying two fuel cells with a combined output of approximately 200 kW. The e-axle draws energy from both the fuel cells and two centrally mounted battery packs. With a system output of 400 kW, the vehicles support a gross weight of up to 44 tons.
Sara Schiffer, Managing Director of hylane: "The cooperation with IVECO represents a significant milestone in our company's history. Especially in the area of 40-ton trucks, we see enormous demand and the greatest potential for reducing CO2 emissions. Additionally, we gain a strong partner with an established workshop network, which is of great importance to us."
Funded by the BMDV
All acquired vehicles were funded under the guideline for the promotion of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-friendly drives and the associated refueling and charging infrastructure (KsNI) by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV). The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH, and applications are approved by the Federal Office for Goods Transport. Through a usage-based rental model called "Pay-Per-Use," hylane customers only pay for the kilometers actually driven. The funds from the funding are fully used to reduce the rental rates for the offered vehicles and thus offer competitive prices.
